Latino Civic Alliance VOTES
Board Statement
LCA VOTES is a newly formed nonpartisan 501c.4 and the political arm of its sister organization Latino Civic Alliance 501.c.3. We understand that based on the thoughts of supporters stateside and it was time to create a political platform to endorse candidates. LCA VOTES is looking to endorse candidates that are consistent and dedicated to creating and support policies that boost the state economy and improve the lives of the Latino community. During our endorsement process we will evaluate candidates regardless of their political affiliation seeking reelection voting records to verify their commitment and support to the Latino community.
In the United States about one in five Americans is Latino –– estimated 62 million Latinos in the U.S. In Washington State based on the US census there are over 7,200,00 million Washingtonians and Latinos represent over 1.400,000. More than three-quarters of Latinos in Washington are of Mexican descent (80%)—18 percentage points more than the national average (62%). Latinos of other descent (6%), Puerto Ricans (4%), South Americans (3%), and Salvadorans (2%) close out the top five Latino descent groups in Washington. The substantial proportion of Latinos of other descent may reflect Washington’s historical development. Latinos have had a permanent presence in the state since the early 1800s when Mexico’s border extended to Oregon, while Mexican migration intensified in the 1920s during the Mexican Revolution.
Latinos in Washington are younger than the average Washingtonian. The median age of Latino Washingtonians is 25, compared to 37 for Washingtonians overall. Latino representation in the workforce leads: Latino men participate in the labor force at the highest rate among the major racial, ethnic, and gender groups in Washington. Latinas have the second-highest labor force participation rate (64%) among women of major racial and ethnic groups.
Closing, We understand the vital economic contributions Latino small business and Latinos play in the state’s economy and we will focus on electing candidates that will be an innovative partner with Latinos in the State.
United we are.
